The Candy Cane Jubilee (detail), 5.5x8.5" Pen on Paper

"The Dream District"

These pen and ink works are sketches of imaginary or remembered landscapes. They are related to audio waves, as I find music is often a vital component of how we experience places and moments. They are also interpretive sound visualizers, pulsing and rhythmic representations of vibrations and movement. Words are often incorporated into each study as I find that frequently text is just as dynamic and fundamental to convey the essence of a landscape or idea, as imagery through line and form. I view these drawings as gestural perspective studies of futuristic cities, theme parks, marshlands, bodies of water, bridges, and other locales that grab our attention when we arrive and see them for the first time. These drawings are a celebration of travel, shadow and light, distance and intimacy.
